"We light candles!"
Jun. 3rd, 2008 06:31 pm![[personal profile]](https://www.dreamwidth.org/img/silk/identity/user.png)
Nina is here. Unlike normal people, we get together for social events and... sit here on our laptops and RP. But this way, I can start cackling randomly and freak Nina out! (I don't mean to. These things just happen.) Nina bought us Chinese food too, and for this I adore her. This is especially good because Evie and I have... almost literally no food in our house.
Yesterday, I realized I knew exactly how to fit Nate Cavanaugh into On a Saturday. And on reflection? It's ridiculously obvious. And a little terrifying. This fills me with glee, especially because Nate is back in my head and I missed her. Nate, you are my favorite.
I apologize to anyone I'm slow at threading with today. Magi, Evie and I are having a demonstration that is full of awesome and Wacky Narration. Guys, we're full of crack, I hope you know. But CRACK OF AWESOME.
Still trying to figure out what I want to write for
writerinadrawer this week. I mean, it's an awesome prompt and I do have an idea, but... I just think everyone is going to write that, so I don't know.
And here, have a meme from
minkhollow.
Comment on this post, and I will choose seven interests from your profile and ask you to explain what they mean, and why you are interested in them. Post this along with your answers in your journal so that others can play.
being the leader (damnit): I don't even remember where this one started. But somehow, in a group of friends, I tend to fall into a vague leadery position. Which is cool, and works well for me. And then they're mean to me and mock me and I have to remind them. Usually it's with exclamations of "I'm the leader, damn it!" And some sulking.
beleaguered guardian angels: Ahah. This is all the Rift's fault. It started with Charlie Walker (
bloodsoulrhythm), who is the Doctor's guardian angel. The Doctor is not thrilled about having a guardian angel, tells him hardly anything, and runs off into dangerous situations without informing Charlie. This is terribly amusing to me, and brings me much glee. And then it extended to other guardian angels who are much too sweet for the stress and trauma their wards inflict on them. Grace and Mat are high on the list. I have such love for them.
cult of the ot3: It's the Rift again. The OT3 consists of The Doctor, Martha, and Des. They have a complicated relationship full of bickering, tackling, sexual tension and occasional face-punching. They also have a fan club, started by JD. It. Is. Awesome. Both the OT3 and the OT3 club.
holes in the universe: An extremely convenient plot device, for both stories and RP! Always fun.
pedeconferences: Also known as walk-and-talks. If you've ever watched a Sorkin show, you'll know what this means. Sometimes, conversations need to be held walking. It's even better if various people tag in and out of the conversation.
stupid hero complexes: Something we used to refer to as Hero Syndrome back in HQ (which, fun fact, is the game Nate was created for!). I have a huge love for characters who can't help charging into danger at every opportunity, because it is their job to save the day, and they take it personally when people around them get hurt. They usually won't pause to A) grab someone to help them, B) plan, or C) care that they're probably running into a trap. Prime examples of this include the Doctor and Desmond Descant.
we light candles!: I blame
lionessvalenti. We were at Rent some time in... early November, 2006. And for some reason, on the line "We light candles!", we both turned to look at each other and cracked up. Because yes, Hanke!Mark, "We light candles!" is absolutely the answer to how you are going to pay your rent. For the rest of that trip and a long time afterwards, "We light candles!" was the default answer to any question. It DOES NOT MATTER that it answers the question not at all.

CRACK OF AWESOME, INDEED. Oh my God, I love it so much. And it really is helpful and informative as well as being cracky and adorable and I approve.
Prime examples of this include the Doctor and Desmond Descant.
*giggles* Damn you. Sometimes you make me forget that Des? Does not actually exist beyond a small group of people. It makes me happy.
I need to stop using this icon randomly often. Damn you skinny!David and your cocky arm spreading.. Thing. Hi, I'm random.no subject
Date: 2008-06-03 10:51 pm (UTC)One day. One day there will be a fandom. And then instead of just rambling about things no one understands, I can be that fandom bitch who tells everyone they're Doing It Wrong. Except not really, because I'm usually more full of squee than bitch when it comes to fandom. DES!
Plus, if there's a fandom, I can write crossover fic with an alternate OT3 and post it to comms and stuff and share it with the WORLD and... I'm done now. Plotting your fandom. Really.

Date: 2008-06-03 10:55 pm (UTC)Oh yes. ONE DAY. And you can be my fandom spy since I will technically not be allowed by law to do anything with the fandom, and it will be glorious.
*is filled with glee*
...Yes, I'm so filled with glee, I clearly had to say it twice.

Date: 2008-06-03 10:59 pm (UTC)Yes. I vote that if/when either of us have fandoms, we be each other's fandom spies. It'll be awesome.
...God, I love us.

Date: 2008-06-04 12:11 am (UTC)alternate universe twins - This is an RP thing, mostly. It's sort of my way of describing when you get two characters together who are so close to the same archetype that they just click.
creative swear words - This is one of those interests people ask me about that I never quite know how to explain... um, they're fun?
gender-neutral wenchdom - a completely pointless in-joke based on a conversation (http://gypsyjr.livejournal.com/965222.html) my friend and I had about Robert Downey Jr.
loyal sidekicks - it might be because I tend heavily toward the sidekick role in life myself, but they always seem to be the characters I'm most fascinated by.
non-traditional families - I am a firm believer that being related to someone genetically or maritally is not the be-all and end-all of family. The people who are there for you and stick by you are the ones who count.
not!zombies - I love zombie movies of many stripes, but I am admittedly a purist when it comes to the creatures themselves. A not!zombie is basically any zombie-like monster that doesn't fit my Romero-inspired definition of the walking dead. (Hello, I am a giant nerd.)
vogon poetry - I honestly can't remember why this is on my interest list, but what's not to love about the worst poems in the universe?

Date: 2008-06-04 06:30 am (UTC)Chaos: I know that a dancing star is born from chaos. I'm interested in all the different types so I KNOW them. So I can see what stars will be born.
Dance: I'm a dancer at heart, no lie. I love to dance. I love watching dance.
Family: Real family, and family I've adopted. Seeing other families being happy. I'm so interested by family dynamics. I'm interested in their wellbeings. You know? The whole nine yards.
Fuckin' your shit up: Heeee! This is for when I break people's minds by introducing them to new concepts. Like headvoices, or pansexuality. Whatever it is I'm introducing.
Human nature: People...fascinate me. I want to know the hows and whys of men and women. I want to know the reasons behind their actions. I want to know what people love and hate and cherish.
Thunderstorms: I feel at home in them. The power, the beauty, the violence. I am at home in a raging summer thunderstorm.

Date: 2008-06-04 02:26 am (UTC)Er... meme me! :D
lol, just kidding. I only have one interest!
I love that the Rift is responsible for two of those interests.
And the cracky!commentary is absolute love for multiple reasons that I couldn't begin to list. Just know that I love you all like a cat loves milk. Ah. Simile's aren't good with my brain right now. Or my brain is not good with them.
Rambling. K. Gonna stop.

no subject
Date: 2008-06-04 04:06 pm (UTC)Which is nice, because it means we can create our own things of value, our own rituals and religions, and they're no more arbitrary than other ones. If we want to hold something holy, we may, and it's just as valid.
everything explodes. everything! – This started when I was wondering what would happen, logically, if I totally wrote out one of the SG-1 characters from continuity starting at Season 5 and moving onward. And, through a series of "Only X would have noticed this" and "X was the only one who could have negotiated this" and "Y only came to ask for Z help because of X" and the like, and the SG-1 team's propensity to avert disaster (often giant explosions) by the skin of their teeth anyway, I discovered that what would logically happen was that, uh, everything would explode. Everything. Ships, planets, Orange County....
I think I eventually slotted it in as the summary for that fic, until I could think of a better one.
finding inappropriate things adorable – Because I do. These things include sad Goa'uld (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Goa'uld) larva, MALP (http://scifipedia.scifi.com/index.php/Mobile_Analytic_Laboratory_Probe)s, Deathclaws (the Fallout enemy) (http://fallout.rpgplanet.gamespy.com/fallout2/enemies.html), floating exuberant brains with prehensile brainstems (http://magibrain.livejournal.com) and the Master.
just... no - My response to a lot of the stuff the magibrain throws at me. Sometimes, it's the only thing you can say.
mocking things i love – Ranging from snarky summaries to wacky parodies to just riffing on them mercilessly. You may have noticed that I mock the hell out of Jack ^^;. SG-1 also gets the treatment. ...I really should get back to
seriously creepy romance – Basically, "creepy" and "twisted" are the two ways I'll take my romance, or I'll wind up very bored indeed. I'll read things like Pyramid Head/James Sunderland, and I'll write things like Coil (http://draegonhawke.livejournal.com/412435.html) and Dis-ease (http://draegonhawke.livejournal.com/328273.html), and all of my normal romance happens offscreen and is just kinda taken for granted in the background noise. Hell, even Damaged People is full of kinda sketchy emotional codependence and manipulation. (Jack, I see you with the muscle relaxants. That's creepy.)
weird and twisted fanfiction – ...see above. I enjoy twisting things up and making people squirm. Darkside (http://www.fanfiction.net/s/1705787/1/Darkside), my FF8 fic, was basically one extended mindfuck, the message of which was "Everything the game told you was morally incorrect." I started rewriting FF8 as Fight Club (http://draegonhawke.livejournal.com/tag/fanfic:+ff8). I do things like write Coil and And What Art (http://draegonhawke.livejournal.com/379871.html), for crissakes. ...I like bizarre premises and doing twisty things with them.

Date: 2008-06-04 11:19 pm (UTC)Inexplicable Love Sometimes you just can't explain why you're in love. It's just.... yeah. My
Living History It's my job! For a definition, it's when someone dresses in historical clothing and goes out and tells people about what life was like back then.
Mark's Narration Just... the way Mark talks about things is utter love. Don't know why. It just is.
Psychic Playlists Sometimes your music just -knows- what you're thinking. It's scary.
Soll Dibbler This one's for Mark, actually. He's actually CMOT Dibbler's nephew and a character in Moving Pictures. (Discworld)
Thomas Silverfish Mmmm. Head of the Alchemist's Guild, and HE IS STILL THERE, DAMNIT. *cough* Um. Sorry. I made Terry Pratchett spittake by asking him if Silverfish was still around. I... just love the guy.
Yes, you get the Markjournal. I r lazy
