"We light candles!"

Nina is here. Unlike normal people, we get together for social events and... sit here on our laptops and RP. But this way, I can start cackling randomly and freak Nina out! (I don't mean to. These things just happen.) Nina bought us Chinese food too, and for this I adore her. This is especially good because Evie and I have... almost literally no food in our house.
Yesterday, I realized I knew exactly how to fit Nate Cavanaugh into On a Saturday. And on reflection? It's ridiculously obvious. And a little terrifying. This fills me with glee, especially because Nate is back in my head and I missed her. Nate, you are my favorite.
I apologize to anyone I'm slow at threading with today. Magi, Evie and I are having a demonstration that is full of awesome and Wacky Narration. Guys, we're full of crack, I hope you know. But CRACK OF AWESOME.
Still trying to figure out what I want to write for
writerinadrawer this week. I mean, it's an awesome prompt and I do have an idea, but... I just think everyone is going to write that, so I don't know.
And here, have a meme from
minkhollow.
Comment on this post, and I will choose seven interests from your profile and ask you to explain what they mean, and why you are interested in them. Post this along with your answers in your journal so that others can play.
being the leader (damnit): I don't even remember where this one started. But somehow, in a group of friends, I tend to fall into a vague leadery position. Which is cool, and works well for me. And then they're mean to me and mock me and I have to remind them. Usually it's with exclamations of "I'm the leader, damn it!" And some sulking.
beleaguered guardian angels: Ahah. This is all the Rift's fault. It started with Charlie Walker (
bloodsoulrhythm), who is the Doctor's guardian angel. The Doctor is not thrilled about having a guardian angel, tells him hardly anything, and runs off into dangerous situations without informing Charlie. This is terribly amusing to me, and brings me much glee. And then it extended to other guardian angels who are much too sweet for the stress and trauma their wards inflict on them. Grace and Mat are high on the list. I have such love for them.
cult of the ot3: It's the Rift again. The OT3 consists of The Doctor, Martha, and Des. They have a complicated relationship full of bickering, tackling, sexual tension and occasional face-punching. They also have a fan club, started by JD. It. Is. Awesome. Both the OT3 and the OT3 club.
holes in the universe: An extremely convenient plot device, for both stories and RP! Always fun.
pedeconferences: Also known as walk-and-talks. If you've ever watched a Sorkin show, you'll know what this means. Sometimes, conversations need to be held walking. It's even better if various people tag in and out of the conversation.
stupid hero complexes: Something we used to refer to as Hero Syndrome back in HQ (which, fun fact, is the game Nate was created for!). I have a huge love for characters who can't help charging into danger at every opportunity, because it is their job to save the day, and they take it personally when people around them get hurt. They usually won't pause to A) grab someone to help them, B) plan, or C) care that they're probably running into a trap. Prime examples of this include the Doctor and Desmond Descant.
we light candles!: I blame
lionessvalenti. We were at Rent some time in... early November, 2006. And for some reason, on the line "We light candles!", we both turned to look at each other and cracked up. Because yes, Hanke!Mark, "We light candles!" is absolutely the answer to how you are going to pay your rent. For the rest of that trip and a long time afterwards, "We light candles!" was the default answer to any question. It DOES NOT MATTER that it answers the question not at all.

Date: 2008-06-04 04:06 pm (UTC)Which is nice, because it means we can create our own things of value, our own rituals and religions, and they're no more arbitrary than other ones. If we want to hold something holy, we may, and it's just as valid.
everything explodes. everything! – This started when I was wondering what would happen, logically, if I totally wrote out one of the SG-1 characters from continuity starting at Season 5 and moving onward. And, through a series of "Only X would have noticed this" and "X was the only one who could have negotiated this" and "Y only came to ask for Z help because of X" and the like, and the SG-1 team's propensity to avert disaster (often giant explosions) by the skin of their teeth anyway, I discovered that what would logically happen was that, uh, everything would explode. Everything. Ships, planets, Orange County....
I think I eventually slotted it in as the summary for that fic, until I could think of a better one.
finding inappropriate things adorable – Because I do. These things include sad Goa'uld (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Goa'uld) larva, MALP (http://scifipedia.scifi.com/index.php/Mobile_Analytic_Laboratory_Probe)s, Deathclaws (the Fallout enemy) (http://fallout.rpgplanet.gamespy.com/fallout2/enemies.html), floating exuberant brains with prehensile brainstems (http://magibrain.livejournal.com) and the Master.
just... no - My response to a lot of the stuff the magibrain throws at me. Sometimes, it's the only thing you can say.
mocking things i love – Ranging from snarky summaries to wacky parodies to just riffing on them mercilessly. You may have noticed that I mock the hell out of Jack ^^;. SG-1 also gets the treatment. ...I really should get back to
seriously creepy romance – Basically, "creepy" and "twisted" are the two ways I'll take my romance, or I'll wind up very bored indeed. I'll read things like Pyramid Head/James Sunderland, and I'll write things like Coil (http://draegonhawke.livejournal.com/412435.html) and Dis-ease (http://draegonhawke.livejournal.com/328273.html), and all of my normal romance happens offscreen and is just kinda taken for granted in the background noise. Hell, even Damaged People is full of kinda sketchy emotional codependence and manipulation. (Jack, I see you with the muscle relaxants. That's creepy.)
weird and twisted fanfiction – ...see above. I enjoy twisting things up and making people squirm. Darkside (http://www.fanfiction.net/s/1705787/1/Darkside), my FF8 fic, was basically one extended mindfuck, the message of which was "Everything the game told you was morally incorrect." I started rewriting FF8 as Fight Club (http://draegonhawke.livejournal.com/tag/fanfic:+ff8). I do things like write Coil and And What Art (http://draegonhawke.livejournal.com/379871.html), for crissakes. ...I like bizarre premises and doing twisty things with them.
