But then she looks at Megatron, and knows she didn’t mishear at all. He’s speechless and blushing, opening his mouth only to snap it closed, faceplates heating so abruptly that the air around him shimmers. And why wouldn’t he be?
After all, Optimus Prime just hit on him.

“Too fast,” Ilya says. “My English... not good.”
“Sorry,” Shane mumbles into Ilya’s hand. Ilya grins and shakes his head, curls dancing, as he pulls his hand away.
“Is okay. Slow words. Okay?”
This year marks thirteen year old Shane Hollander's third summer at Coach Marakov's elite hockey training camp. In attendance for the first time: Ilya Rozanov, visiting from Russia. Shane isn't the most sociable, and Ilya's English isn't the greatest, yet the unlikely duo soon become the best of friends.
It's just one summer, but it makes a world of difference.
Reccer's Notes: In this story Shane and Ilya meet aged 13, at an Ottawa-based hockey camp. They become best friends despite Ilya having very little English and Shane having no Russian, and bond over being the best players at the camp, and while petting the camp cat. Ilya is withdrawn and brusque at first but Shane's artless directness wins him over. They stay in touch through adolescence and it results in a very different meeting when they next see each other at the Prospect Cup in Regina. Charming and heartwarming with great characterisation - a lovely read.

Family Matters 2026

Whether that be traditional, half, foster/adoptive, or step siblings, siblings of all kinds are welcome. For the purposes of this mini challenge, I am excluding found family (unless there are sibling relationships within) and “I see them as a sibling” relationships (unless, of course, that statement is meant to be literal.) As I won’t be policing anything, please use your best interest and feel free to ask me any questions in the comments.
What about incest?
This is NOT the incest mini challenge. Someone made a couple of years ago and I'm hoping, for all interested, that it's continues on. However, nothing and no one is stopping you from signing up to both if that’s what you want.

I haven't been in the fandom for a minute, but my CQL works are here on AO3, and I've also got a phenomenally curated fic recs list here on DW.
Some things I love: Anything that answers the question (or asks more of the question!) Wait, who am I? Who are you? Who are we? Identity fuckery is the best kind of fuckery — that's anything that uses a conceit to ask who we really are and what that means, for oneself and in communities. Reincarnation, character bleed, disguise, code-switching, fear of exile alongside fear of belonging, monstrosity, all of that is my catnip. Nothing is sexier than being equals, which doesn't mean being all the same way.
I love transformations, strong commitments to voice, world and genre, enthusiastic bisexuals and anyone who loves ladies, true ensembles, people who Care Too Much about things, big feelings in general, Xue Yang's incredible creative genius, Song Lan's insistence that he's normal in direct proportion to how deranged he actually is, Xiao Xingchen's off-kilter but deeply held morality, everyone being outsiders, everyone being both peripheral and obsessively superlative at What They do, warped coping mechanisms with an internal logic and anything that focuses on all the senses. Please feel free to be funny, especially at the worst moments!
If you are comfortable with explicit stuff, have a blast! If you are not, also have a blast! I don't have, like, a list of sex acts I require, but I do love being very inside the body of the POV as a reader. This also applies to violence, which I also love!
Some things I don't care for: I am genuinely turned off by... caring about size differences. Yes, lol etc! I don't want Xue Yang tiny or anything like that. (He's not tiny, Wang Haoxuan is like, average to slightly tall, the other two are just huge!) Please also no bodily excretions stuff (scat/pissplay/omo, cum-eating/creampies, facials), sex worker/courtesan/concubine AUs, tentacles, A/B/O, sexual assault or denigrating female and non-male characters, even in character.

This challenge uses a deliberately broad definition of neurodivergence and mental illness - anything and everything from autism, to depression, to plurality, to Narcissistic Personality Disorder, to fictional conditions. As long as it involves someone who has a brain/mind that doesn't work "normally", it's eligible. Both headcanons and canon are allowed

Maybe you're learning a new language and getting a gift in it would be a delightful way to improve your fluency.
Maybe you just want to talk about how much you love conlangs and invite someone to incorporate conlangs into your gift.
The possibilities are multi-ple!
On the creation side: unless someone has clearly indicated that a non-English work would suit as their only gift, gifts of that kind need be posted in Yuletide Madness, regardless of length. Works can only go in the main collection if they fulfil all the same requirements as an assigned gift.
Similarly, someone may be delighted to get a gift in a language you've just started to learn, and connect with you over enthusiasm for that language, but if you're posting a gift in the Main rather than the Madness collection, it should probably either be in a language you're fluent in or in a language you can call on fluent help for.
If you would have to use automatic translation in order to give a gift in a particular language, please don't give that gift. Please either translate your work yourself, or reach out to another person for help with translation and polishing.
Finally, people who can check text snippets, lines of dialogue, etc, in multiple languages are extremely valuable and appreciated, and if you can offer this service, or offer to help translate, please consider volunteering when the beta post goes up.
