Icon meme!

1. Reply to this post with 'Icons!', and I will pick five of your icons.
2. Make a post (including the meme info) and talk about the icons I chose.
3. Other people can then comment to you and make their own posts.
4. This will - allegedly - create a never-ending cycle of icon glee.
TW: Don't leave Torchwood in charge
I love Torchwood. I really, really do. But on occasion, they have so much fail. This icon may've been related to a fic of some sort (which I have never read), but mostly, I just like the sentiment. It extends to Torchwood Chicago, and is occasionally used in defense of/to mock them (considering I play half of Torchwood... it's necessary). Also useful for when I want to spaz at the huge, gaping plotholes in Torchwood canon...
S60*M: I'll make a friend of you yet
I was so hoping someone would ask about this one. Studio 60 is my show. The show I watched since the beginning and loved dearly and still hold a grudge against NBC for cancelling. It's a show about a weekly SNL-style sketch comedy show, and Matt Albie, the head writer, has a huge red countdown clock in his office that counts down the days, hours, minutes and seconds to the next show. And it's usually something that he'll look up and glare at, like the continued rotation of the earth is that countdown clock's very own personal insult to him, but in the last episode, he walks over and reaches up to touch it. "I'll make a friend of you yet." That just... pretty much covers my relationship with writing on a schedule, with writing at all. I LOVE this icon.
TW*J: Maybe I believe in things unseen
This is one of
lionessvalenti's Torchwood icons with Declan Bennett lyrics. I have a lot of them. I'm not sure why I like this one so much - I needed a Jack icon at the time and this one was just... yes. For all that Jack's a darker character in Torchwood, there's this crazy, unshakeable faith in him too - in the Doctor, in his team, in the future...
DW*T: Horizons sing
My very favorite Doctor Who icon, period. It just epitomises the show for me. The text is from the English words on the front of the Millennium Centre in Cardiff - "In these stones, horizons sing." I know I made the icon, but I adore it. The image of the TARDIS sitting on the Plass is one of my favorite from the show, and the light on the black and white, and the faint coordinates on the icon... It's possibility and the future and hope. And there's also a darker undertone to it, thanks to fic I wrote over a year ago - it's being left behind, the thing you want most being right there and slipping through your fingers.
TW*H: Even if you decide to fuck me over
Another of
lionessvalenti's icons. The full line is "I'm gonna stand beside my loved one 'til death deletes our time, even if you decide to fuck me over in one or two years' time." I love Hart. He's a psychopathic bastard, but I have a lot of sympathy for him at the same time. There's a reason I was able to reuse an old Spike journal for Hart's when I played him in the Rift - he's love's bitch.
TW: We crashed like waves into the stars
The keywords are from the song "We've Got Everything" - "We crashed in like waves into the stars - didn't want it, didn't need it, but we knew that we could see it, so we opened up the door..." It's one of those quintessential Torchwood songs for me, dealing with things so far out of their realm of experience, over their heads so often, but still doing it, again and again. Also, I love open space, open skies - the few shots of Countrycide that this icon is from are my some of FAVORITES from the entire first season.
TW*I: Eyes wide shut for 24 years...
lionessvalenti's, yet again. Honestly, I think part of the reason that I picked up this icon was so I'd have ONE Ianto icon that wasn't bitchy, so people wouldn't think I was being snarky when I used it. XD However, the text on it is very much a Ianto sentiment to me. I don't usually use this one outside of a fandom context unless I am feeling REALLY fucking out of touch with the world and losing control over my life.
DW: Autumn days that make you feel sad
I really love the weeping angels. The first is just because Blink is one of my favorite episodes of New Who in terms of writing - there are others I love more for the story, but it's a beautifully written episode. Also, I have a thing for angels in general, and there's something really lovely (if also deeply creepifying) about a statue of a weeping angel just on its own, without any of the connotations from "Blink". The keywords are from "Southern California Wants to Be Western New York", one of my favorite songs ever.
MISC: Nonstandard spacetime
This just seemed a necessary icon to have, both for DW stuff and generic scifi stuff. Also my only icon that's not actually fandom-related in one way or another...
TW: Do not leave Weevils in the van
One of the notes from the BBC's Torchwood site - I'm almost certain that's Owen's handwriting. Good icon for general frustration and spaz... and it's also slightly ridiculous. Just the phrase "Do not leave Weevils in the van" makes me giggle for some inexplicable reason.
DW*8: The sky was dancing with lights
Absolutely my favorite scene from the TV movie. Just pure ADORABLE GLEEFUL DOCTOR, and that's something everyone should have a little of in their life. For use when nothing less than bouncy exuberant Time Lord can express your glee.
TWW*T/S: Punctuation is good
Toby is not my favorite character from TWW (that's a close tie between CJ, Josh and Sam), nor can I reliably write him, but damn if I don't identify with him 99% of the time. Which is why my only TWW icons feature Toby. From the same conversation as the text in the icon: "That's good... good... Okay... Sam?" "Yeah?" "You're going to come to a verb soon, right?" "You know what this is called?" "Bad writing?" "Imagery." Also, most of you who've done a lot of writing things with me know of my love affair with punctuation. Especially commas. Punctuation is good.
DW*I: When facing fearful odds
TIP/TSP are my favorite episodes from S2, and I adore Ida. It's that love affair with minor characters that I have. At some point in TIP, one of the crew members quotes "Horatius" - "For how should man die better than facing fearful odds?" I love Ida's expression here, weary and distant and thoughtful, and the coloring (one of the few times DW's weird lighting actually WORKS), and... okay, usually when I use this icon I'm exhausted and not happy with the world at all, but there's a stubborn determination there too, to come out of it in one piece or go down fighting.
DW*10: Doctor/Pain OTP
Guys. Have you SEEN the things I do to the Doctor in fic? Or in the Rift? You know, and then there's the fact that every season of Ten's canon ends with him sad and alone on the TARDIS. Part of the reason I have this icon is because I just fucking love angst in fic, part of it's that I fail at shipping one thing (and if I'm going to have a One True Pairing, it might as well be Doctor/Pain), and... okay, I'll be honest, part of it's that I just love the scene this icon is from. AoG/Doomsday were the first episodes of Doctor Who that I saw. And even not knowing any of the rest of the canon, this scene through to the end really did make me cry.
