I don't suck at updating, really. Okay, maybe I do. But I've actually been able to write these past few days, so that is shiny and awesome, especially if it continues. I'd really like to start working on my novel again, but I don't really feel like I'm able to do that until we've settled down somewhere, finally. But we're getting our apartment on the 5th, so yay!

Until then, I'll just try and finish that one Torchwood story of doom. As long as I finish it before a year has passed since I posted the first chapter... Yeah.

Jaqui got a new TV that works, and Evie is playing Devil May Cry. It's adorable when she plays games. She squeaks. Evie and I are still looking for a DVD player that plays data DVDs. It's annoying.

I'm thinking about a new layout for this journal. And for [livejournal.com profile] find_rightbrain. I just... need to decide what I want to do with both of them. I'm leaning toward things in black and white and gray, I just have to find layouts that fit that. Bah.

Regarding the Eleventh Doctor casting, I am pleased. I am very pleased. All of the names people had been throwing around never got more than an "eh" reaction out of me, and a few of them I badly did not want, but guy completely out of left field? I am ALL FOR THAT.

And the fact that he's young... honestly doesn't bother me in the least. Sure, he looks ickle in the interview, but I love the promo picture, and it matches the image of the Doctor River Song talked about in FotD/SitL. And never mind what River said to Ten about how he looks so young - physical age so isn't the point. A couple weeks ago, I went back and watched some Nine episodes for the first time after months of just watching Ten, and my first reaction was "Oh God, he looks so young." It's all in the acting, and we won't get to see that for a year. So I'm willing to withhold judgment.

That said, I am looking forward to the next series so much more than I was before. (And if Eleven spends his first episode in Ten's clothes, I will cry. So many tears.)

And very quickly, some comm pimping for the new year. Okay, so they're not new comms, but they're comms I think deserve so much more attention, because I love them.

[livejournal.com profile] itsproductivity is a writing prompt comm that runs in January, April, July and October. If you're looking for something to get you writing small things this month, you should totally check it out. It's open to fandom and original writing, and I love the prompts there.

[livejournal.com profile] whoniverse1000 is a Whoniverse community in which the goal is getting 1000 fics written, each with a different pairing. Crossover and historical characters are allowed. We're 1/5 of the way there already, and I would so love to see it reach the goal. So if you write in the Whoniverse, maybe consider popping over there and writing a pairing or two? It's shiiiny.

Oh God yes. So much crying.

I am withholding judgment on Matt until I actually see him in the role. (I haven't even watched the announcement proper yet, so possibly that will influence my opinion as well.) I have hopes for him, though.

I did have a rather violent initial knee-jerk reaction of "OMGWTFYOUNGHE'SJUSTABABY" upon discovering that he was born in '82. But the more I look at pictures and read about his theatre history and his enthusiasm for the role (and read about the crazyfen's intense hatred), the more I warm up to him. I think he has the possibility of being really good if still weirdly young; I'm sure I'll get over that eventually.

Oh man, the crazyfen are freaking me out so much. Like they usually do, but for some reason it took me by surprise this time.

I love that he's a theatre actor. I would be more concerned about his age if it were Rusty that cast him instead of Stephen, but I trust Stephen on this matter. And while he still looks young in the promo pictures, he can so pull off the Ancient and Forever look (and I'll admit it, Ancient and Forever Doctor is my faovrite.) Look! Picspam! (http://settiai.livejournal.com/1058955.html)

[livejournal.com profile] starletfallen said that in the main promo pic that's floating around, he looks like the lovechild of Nine and Ten, and I think she's kind of right.

I keep forgetting just how crazy they are. I was reading the fandom_wank report and hit upon someone quoting someone who brought up the fact that they cast the guy who had previously played Billie Piper's love interest instead of the guy who had previously played a character who didn't like Rose! Because clearly that's the reason they chose Matt instead of Paterson! And then I headdesked and went "Oh, fandom, how do I manage to forget how batshit you are."

I love his theatre background. ♥ And he's been in The History Boys! I'm sure he must have been seriously amazing to be so impressive that teh Moff changed his mind (on the spot, from what I hear?) about going with an older Doctor for 11.

Yay! Picspam! ...Is it bad that this picture (http://dw.settiai.com/ms4.jpg) alone means I now kind of have a crush on him? I have a thing for guys people who can look good in hats. I HOPE HIS DOCTOR WEARS A HAT.

he looks like the lovechild of Nine and Ten

I can completely see that. Ten's hair and Nine's fashion sense!

SERIOUSLY? I couldn't even bring myself to read the stuff off fandom_wank, just because I am happily in fandom squee mode and DON'T WANT IT RUINED. But yes. I mean, I figured Moffat probably wasn't unshakeable on his older Doctor position, but the fact that he cast someone so much younger says something for the guy.

And no. That picture is kind of adorable. He reminds me of someone in that picture, but I can't put my finger on who. It might actually be that it reminds me of the guy who PBs [livejournal.com profile] _chibidragon_'s AU Eleventh Doctor, [livejournal.com profile] dalekmade11, which is kind of hilarious.

You know, I couldn't help but noticing as well that in some shots he does look weirdly like Rizzy's 11.

I KNOW. I thought I was just imagining it, but then I went back and looked at some of the icons and nope... he really does...

Rizzy totally wins... something for that.

ZOMG! I am so glad I'm not the only one to think that or I would have felt like a complete dork.

Amusingly enough, the pb that I use for !Eleven was 26 at the time that Blackpool was made, which is where all my icons for him come from. Same age as the actual Eleven's actor! *gasp*

Yay, I win something! :D

Also, HOLY FUCK GORGEOUS JOURNAL, AUBREY. Love the new layout!

Uh...words...fuck jet lag for fucking with my brain. I may come back and comment on other things when I've... slept.

Thank you! I'm kind of in love with this layout. I miss the Martha/Ten, but the colors were driving me crazy.

She's so, so pretty and the words on the thingy are just beautiful. Thingy? Really brain? Best you could do?

I really would, but I'm distracted by that damn IC friending meme. Thing. It's horribly addicting and yeah, I'll just have to do that more tomorrow. Sleep has become necessary.

I have a sick fascination with the crazy. I don't know why. It's a problem, possibly psychological. Maybe I have masochistic qualities.

See, now I don't want to wait a year to see him in the role. *pout*

It might actually be that it reminds me of the guy who PBs [livejournal.com profile] _chibidragon_<'s AU Eleventh Doctor, [livejournal.com profile] dalekmade11, which is kind of hilarious.

If that's it, that's AWESOME. Psychic casting FTW!

I have to admit, I'm looking more forward to seeing him as the Doctor after watching the interview. The crazy constant hand gestures make me smile and he seems to be really enthusiastic about it. And age aside, the picture, at least, looks Doctor-ish enough for me to want to give him a shot.

...And I really have nothing else to say. Uh... I love you?

Yes. He's young, but he looks like the Doctor. And Davison was only 3 years older when he started as the Doctor, so, y'know.

I love you too! ♥ ♥ ♥

Yay writing! (Again!) And yay apartment! And yay for Jaquis having TV's! And yay new layouts! And... I'm done.

OMG ICKLE. That is seriously all I can say about the new Doctor. That and I want to scritch him, because he is TINEH. I think given my weird fondness for either young people who act older or people who look physically younger than they really are, I'm going to like him just based on appearance alone, but I'll have to see him first. But yeah, I'm going to cry so much when we lose Ten. *wibbles*

And on that note, I will take this moment to swear by [livejournal.com profile] itsproductivity for the sake of the people who haven't been enlightened to its awesome. I actually found my Google Document with all of last time's prompts and I need to do those and, uh, this month's prompts when I actually feel like fic-writing again. >.

Yeah, the young-looking immortal thing is a huge kink of mine, AS I'M SURE YOU KNOW, so it doesn't bother me in the least. And Davison took the role at 29, so... um... not that much of a difference, guys. Buuut the people who're freaking out either haven't thought of that or don't care. And he'll be a year older when S5 actually starts. Now I just really want to know who his companion(s) is(/are), because the dynamics could be SO AWESOME.

Heee. Chriswriting in [livejournal.com profile] itsproductivity always makes me happy. Chriswriting in general makes me happy.

Hee! Yes, young-looking immortals are AWESOME. I'm just hoping he can pull off the Ancient and Forever stuff and have it not be... Inappropriately cute. Because it would suck if he went off some big AaF tangent and then... Looked like a tiger cub trying to be threatening and only coming off as adorable. ...Yes, that's one of my primary concerns. The tineh interfering with his intimidation factor. IT'S A VALID CONCERN.

YES. I'm very excited for his companions! ....And is it sad that I really hope they don't bring Martha back for him even if it's just an episode (like SJ). I don't know... On one hand, someone NOT RUSTY might actually be able to handle her, but the whole 'verse has been horrible to her and I don't think I could deal with her and a Doctor who isn't Ten. It would... Bother me a lot. That... Made more sense in my head. Bah.

Hee! ♥

*Giggles* On the one hand, that would be adorable. On the other hand, I'm too attached to my Ancient and Forever Doctor, and I so want him to be able to manage it. But Stephen seems to like AoF Doctor (see: ANYTHING RIVER SONG SAYS ABOUT HER DOCTOR EVER), so. Y'know. I have confidence.

And I know what you mean. I'd love to see more of Martha, but A) every time she comes back, I'm just so terrified they're going to do something more to her, and B) Martha is very much a companion of Ten's. They fit together, even despite the issues, and I'm just not sure a different Doctor would click with her as well.

(But then, I'm of the opinion that the problem with Ten and Martha aren't that they are who they are, it's that Martha said she wasn't interested and the Doctor believed her, and that... in that situation, it's really not good for there to be just one companion on the TARDIS. If S3 had had two companions instead of just Martha, I think both Martha and the Doctor would've had a lot more perspective on things and the relationship between them wouldn't have been so horribly painful half the time. But that's just me.)

On the plus side, I never would have guessed seeing Tennant for the very first time that he'd be able to do AaF as well as he does (which is why the ending of TCI gives me a jolt), so there's a good chance Matt'll surprise us!

Yeah, exactly! *scritchMartha*

(YES. I agree with this! And dear God, I hope we get more Companions on the TARDIS with Eleven.)
