Well, it's usually in need of repair, but it works fine, for all of that. You can't exactly blame him - he doesn't usually have time to sit down and fix it all, and I'm told it's very difficult to find a good TARDIS mechanic these days. I will have to disagree with you on the desktop theme. It always seemed very calming to me - something about the color scheme.
