Top Five Meme!
Top five things from
kawaiispinel and
yetregressing. You can still ask for other top five things here, if anyone's interested. The following lists are in no particular order, so don't put too much stock in where something falls on the list. I'm too lazy to organize these things.
Top Five Torchwood Episodes
1. "Everything Changes". There is absolutely nothing I don't love about this episode. I love Gwen. I love Torchwood and their ridiculous recruiting practices. It has a Suzie. And every time I watch it, I find something new to squee about.
2. "Ghost Machine". DON'T JUDGE ME. The main plot here, I can take or leave, I just love watching Gwen in this episode, and the ending scene with Jack and Gwen is one of my favorites. Plus, weapons training. I adore that weapons training scene.
3. "They Keep Killing Suzie". Definitely my favorite first season episode in terms of writing. Also, I love Suzie. Everything about her. I will admit that every time Tosh is on screen during this episode, I start flailing over her and Suzie, but never mind that.
4. "Fragments". Backstory episodes are some of my favorites, okay? Tosh's section of the episode is definitely my favorite, though that should surprise no one at all.
5. "Children of Earth". THE WHOLE THING, OKAY? If I have to pick a day... probably Day 5, though Days 2 and 4 are close runners up. Seriously, you guys. Childen of Earth was the show I always wanted Torchwood to be (and the show it already kind of was in my head).
Top Five Epic Fics You'd Love to Write One Day
1. This is the fic that I started for TARDIS Big Bang and will one day contine - at the very end of "Family of Blood", the TARDIS takes off without the Doctor, and with Martha still in it. And keeps making random hops that Martha can't really control. And, as TARDISes are prone to do, it lands her in places where there are problems to solve, and someone's got to be the Doctor... Eventually, there's a Jack in there, and eventually they get back to the Doctor, but basically this is my Martha is fucking FANTASTIC, you guys fic.
2. Post-CoE Torchwood rebuilding fic. Which I may or may not be attempting to write for
tw_bigbang. As a companion piece to that, a fic in the universe
trollopfop and I have been poking at, where Jack starts getting harrassed by the remnants of the Time Agency after leaving Earth. Oh, and being followed around by his dead boyfriend. It's awesome.
3. A mini virtual series set between "End of Days" and "Kiss Kiss Bang Bang". Basically several good-sized fics with episodic plots, playing with the team without Jack. They're so cute without Jack.
4. That damn Alias/Supernatural crossover where Sydney is a hunter. I still need to finish watching Alias in order to do this.
5. That one fic where the fall of the Time Agency is all the Doctor's fault. If I ever write this, it will probably come out as a virtual series like #3.
Top Five Fiction Kinks
1. Fic told through letters/documents/Post-Its/IM/whatever. Especially if it's something actually written down on paper/Post-Its in the character's handwriting.
2. Angels. Which I'm sure you all knew already. Wings too, though I'm not sure if that stems from the angel thing or if it's a separate thing. Strangely, I can generally take or leave demons, but if they come with the angels, that's cool.
3. Chosen or constructed families. Refer to just about every fandom I've ever been really in love with. Adopting siblinghtings, standing beside someone when their blood family won't, all of that. Usually it comes in the form of a team of some kind, but not always.
4. BOYS. I don't know how else to describe it. A pair of male characters who are absolutely inseperable, love each other more than life (platonically or otherwise, doesn't matter), and usually express it by antagonizing each other (from love). Des and the Doctor, Matt and Danny, Dan and Casey... I actually don't think the gender really matters here, but I'm not aware of any male/female or female/female pairs of characters with that particular dynamic - if anyone knows of any, for the love of god, tell me.
5. Random as hell, but I like titles being used in place of a proper name. Calling Jack "Captain", the Doctor and the Master being... well, the Doctor and the Master, and I will admit that I get a little kick out of Giles calling Buffy "my Slayer".
Top Five Favorite Moments in the Rift
1. The end of S1. The whole thing. Healing Martha, killing Calisto, collapsing in a pile of broken in the Conrad... I really, really adored all of that.
2. "I'm bleeding and I have an internet meme on my shoulder. Can I go home now?" The whole Christmas ball, really. But that especially.
3. Des tackling the door and then the Doctor. I just. LOVE.
4. Frickin' archangel apocalypse. Talk about EPIC. I'm including the storming of the Kashtta in this, and Vincent and Romana, and... all of it. lakdjf;akljdga;kj <--- keysmash of epic love.
5. OH GOD I DON'T EVEN KNOW. I'm having trouble picking a last one here. The Doctor and Des and Martha when they first picked up the whistler and the Doctor gave them a house. Des with the weeping angel. Sam and Jack's first meeting (complete with Judge!). Jack bringing Sam back to life in Thaneplot. I- I'm cheating, aren't I?
Top Five Favorite Stories You've Written
1. Lullaby for a Dead Girl. Everything about this story just flowed, and it was beautiful. Also my first (and only, atm) published story, which... yay! (That link goes to a locked fic journal, but if you friend it, I will probably friend you back over there.)
2. Sometimes You Hear the Bullet. I don't know why I love this one so much. Possibly just because it is so much horrible in such a compact package. It was so much fun to write too. (Incidentally, it was the story I wrote for this round of stories at WIAD last round. I submitted a different fic, because I didn't want to cut this one down to the word count.)
3. The Distance Between Yesterday and Tomorrow. So it took me a year to write this fic (pretty much literally). It is timey-wimey and happy-making and the ending still makes me smile. Plus... "Did you think this ship ran on hope and happy thoughts?"
4. And You Loved Things Just Because. It is no secret how much I adore this fic. I wrote it for the last round of
writerinadrawer, and it won despite... pretty much ignoring the prompt, bizarrely enough. Just... Tosh. I love writing Tosh - I love how she thinks, and I'm pretty sure something about my writing shifts when she's the POV character, and I like that shift. Plus, I'm... really fond of the team when it's just Tosh and Suzie and Jack. Such a cute team.
5. The Stories We Say. I make no promises about the quality of this fic, if you go to read it. I just love it because I managed to write a serial fic in a timely fashion, and I had some damn awesome cheerleaders who helped every step of the way and damn, it was fun.
Top Five Favorite Teams in Fiction
1. Torchwood: Torchwood 3. They are fuckups, but such endearing fuckups.
2. Doctor Who: Team TARDIS. ANY OF THEM. (My particular favorite is Ten-Martha-Jack, but seriously. All of them.)
3. BtVS: The Scoobies. They are the best chosen family.
4. Firefly: The entire crew of Serenity. See above re: chosen family. Joss Whedon is the best at this (and I'm really missing it in Dollhouse).
5. Space: Above and Beyond: The 58th. I grew up a military brat, okay? I love the military, and I love those kids. Especially awesome with mamalion!Shane and Hawkes being... Hawkes.
Five Characters You Wish You Could Write But Just Can't
1. Donna frickin' Noble. Seriously. I've tried. It doesn't go well.
2. Rhys Williams. I don't even want to write fic about him, I just feel bad how often he gets left out because I fail at him.
3. Anyone in Alias who isn't Sydney. Seriously, I'd love to write Alias fic. Hard to do that with just one character.
4. Gene Hunt. The same goes for him as for Donna.
5. Rose Tyler. Every now and then I can manage it, but I've never been able to get a headvoice for her. It's problematic.
Five Shows I'd Recommend to
yetregressing
1. I know you've watched Angel and loved it, but I can't remember if you're familiar with Buffy. If not, watch it. ASAP.
2. The Sarah Jane Adventures. BABY TEAM! Oh god it is so cute. And Maria is awesome. (As is Sarah Jane, but that goes without saying.)
3. Sports Night. Any Sorkin show really, but especially Sports Night for you. Sorkin is very good with dialogue and ensembles and team dynamics and yes, I adore him.
4. Avatar: The Last Airbender. Again with the team/family thing going on. Plus, this is just damn good fantasy. The worldbuilding is brilliant.
5. Joan of Arcadia. I'm an atheist, and I love this show. Joan is one of my favorite characters ever.

Stealing titles from poetry is like stealing song lyrics! But everyone thinks you're cool for doing it! :D
